These laws can be read in their entirety at:
COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE LAWS
§59-65-10: Compulsory attendance: This outlines the responsibility of parents and the school district in respect to public school attendance between the ages of five (5) and seventeen (17).
§59-65-20: Penalty: What are the penalties for failure to attend in compliance with Section 59-65-10?
§59-65-30: Exceptions: There are some for whom the above sections of the law do not apply. Can that be you?
HOMESCHOOLING: YOUR LEGAL OPTIONS
** You must choose to register through one of the following legal options. Choose only one. Choose carefully and with understanding that each of these options have different laws and guidelines that will affect how much control and freedom you have when homeschooling your children.**
§59-65-40: The Local School District (“First Option”): This option provides protection to homeschoolers under the auspices of their local school district.
§59-65-45. South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (Second Option): SCAIS was the first legal alternative to district approval to home school.
§59-65-47. Home School Associations (“Third Option”) This gives homeschoolers a wide variety of home school associations under which to conduct their schooling. This option allows for greater parental control and is usually more cost effective depending, of course, on the association chosen. PACESC is proud to be one of these “third option” associations.
